Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) protects the health and safety of the people in Australia and New Zealand by maintaining a safe food supply. FSANZ develops food standards for primary production, food manufacturing, processing and labelling, which apply to all foods produced or imported for sale in Australia and New Zealand.
Standard 1.5.2 of the Food Standards Code regulates the sale of genetically modified foods. The standard has two provisions:
- a mandatory pre-market safety assessment requirement, and
- a mandatory labelling requirement.
