Monsanto is committed to the sustainability of the Australian cotton industry. An important part of what we do, and who we are, is the responsible and ethical management of our game-changing products. Stewardship, as this is often referred to, maximises the benefits and minimises any risks associated with the use of our products. Stewardship also makes good business sense - careful attention to product safety and market impact is essential for high value technologies in any industry.
Our Crop Management and Resistance Management Plans are key elements of this commitment. Resistance is the greatest danger to the continued availability and efficacy of agricultural technologies. The requirements set out in these Management Plans are put in place to reduce the opportunities for resistance to develop. It is also important to note that these requirements are a key component of receiving regulatory approval for our products, and are continually monitored for compliance by regulators and expert scientific committees. They are also developed, improved and endorsed through consultation with industry. This is because the longevity of our products is in everyone’s best interest.
In this context, Technology Service Providers are an important part of our business. Technology Service Proivers (TSPs) are the grower’s first point of contact in relation to Crop Management Plans and are there to help should any stewardship related questions arise. This business model has proven to be successful over a number of years and we are committed in the 2009/10 season to enhancing our TSP training and education efforts to help them better support the growers who choose Monsanto technologies.
