Regulatory Update

Australia – Regulatory field trials approved for Genuity Bollgard III

The Gene Technology Regulator has issued licence DIR101/2010 to Monsanto Australia for the limited and controlled release of cotton genetically modified for insect resistance and herbicide tolerance: Bollgard III and Bollgard III/Roundup Ready Flex.

This is a positive step for both Monsanto and the cotton industry at large. The licence to conduct field trials of the third generation cotton trait demonstrates our commitment to agriculture in Australia and our continued investment into future traits and next generation products.

The undertaking of the Genuity Bollgard III field trials is an important part of the regulatory data collection process as well as in assessing the viability of the product for the Australian market. Europe - Commission authorises six GM maize for food and feed uses

We are excited to see further progress on the acceptance of biotechnology in the European Union. On the 28th July the European Commission approved two Monsanto corn technology stacks, Genuity® VT Double PRO™ (MON 89034 X NK603) and YieldGard VT Triple® (MON 88017 X MON810).

This decision covers the import, processing and food and feed use of grain and processed products and enables the shipment of grain and its derivatives from these products for use as feed ingredients by European livestock industry.
