Monsanto supports Gwydir Children's Service

(Friday 27 March 2009, Boomi NSW) Monsanto Australia presented a cheque for one thousand dollars to support the much needed Gwydir Children’s Service. The mobile pre-school visits isolated children in the Gwydir and Mungindi areas one day a week. The service provides necessary pre-school education to the children of these communities.

Tom Breen, Technical Sales Agronomist for Monsanto in the region presented the cheque said, “This is a vital part of the community and we at Monsanto are extremely pleased to support a service that will enable the local children to learn and grow in their community, without travelling long distances. They will have access to the latest learning aids and activities available all close to home.”

Gwydir Mobile Children’s Services Teaching Director, Wendy Baldwin said, “Without the support of companies like Monsanto and organisations like DOCS and the ongoing support from community fundraising, these children would not receive any pre-school education because of the distances involved in travelling to major centres. Without these types of services, it severely impacts the ability of regional communities to attract families to the region and retain employees and business owners.”

The one thousand dollar donation will assist in meeting some of the large ongoing costs associated with running the service, including motor vehicle operating expenses, fuel, insurance as well as the provision of equipment and educational resources.
