14th April 2010
There are only a few weeks left for the efforts and achievements of leading cotton growers to be recognised this year. Within the overall Australian Cotton Industry Awards 2010, nominations close for the Monsanto Cotton Grower of the Year Award on Friday 30 April, 2010.
The award represents a major continuing contribution from an industry stalwart. Monsanto’s Peter O’Keeffe, head of the Australian business, says it’s really an investment for the future.
“The company’s support now tallies more than $100,000 over the past 5 years, ensuring that excellence in cotton growing continues to get the recognition it deserves. Each year the amount is shared between the running of the awards program and prize money for the leading cotton grower.”
The Monsanto Cotton Grower of the Year Award is the company’s largest year-by-year industry sponsorship.
“We know that the cotton industry has many great stories to tell. Australian cotton growers are the worlds most productive and resource efficient, and there are many people working quietly for the benefit of the industry and the cotton growing regions of Australia. “The Award helps to give a profile to these people and these stories.”
The 2010 Australian Cotton Industry Awards, now in their seventh year, have called for nominations in five categories.
The Awards aim to recognise excellence, commitment and innovation within the industry and entries are sought across all sectors. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner and ceremony at the 2010 Australian Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast on 12th August.
Monsanto Cotton Grower of the Year Award nominees can be either irrigated or dryland growers, regardless of farm size, who can demonstrate achievement in most of the following aspects of cotton production: crop and pest management; land and water management; staff development and OH&S; commitment to Best Management Practices (BMP); business management and marketing; and industry and/or community participation.
Entries close on Friday 30 April, 2010, and entry forms and full criteria can be downloaded at www.cottonaustralia.com.au or contact Cotton Australia on (02) 9669 5222.
