Roundup Ready® canola is back for the 2012 season with a new and simpler pricing structure.
There’s now just one up-front fee for your Roundup Ready canola technology. With no grain technology fee* per tonne of grain produced from 2012 plantings, it’s easier to manage your profits.
What’s the new pricing?
From 2012, growers will pay only $6.00 (ex GST) per kilogram upfront for Roundup Ready when they purchase Roundup Ready canola planting seed through their local Technology Service Provider (TSP).
Why the change?
After talking with many canola growers around Australia, we recognised that paying both at the start and the end of the season was confusing and made it difficult to manage cash flow and be certain of total end costs. So we focused on making Roundup Ready canola pricing less complicated. The new system will be simpler for everyone and many growers will find growing Roundup Ready canola easier on the pocket than before.
Why Roundup Ready canola?
The new, simple pricing in combination with profitable weed control makes Roundup Ready canola an even more attractive and profitable winter cropping option.
Flexible and powerful weed control sets Roundup Ready canola apart from other canola systems. With Roundup Ready canola, you can use the knockdown power of Roundup Ready herbicide with PLANTSHIELD® to kill weeds when they appear. You don’t have to worry about the timely incorporation of residual herbicides that are commonly associated with other canola systems.
Superior weed control means you can maximise your yield potential. In recent hybrid trials, hybrid Roundup Ready Canola had greater average yields than both Clearfield and Triazine tolerant canola in eight out of 10 NVT trials.
Results from independent trials
The results are in from last year’s National Variety Trials (NVT) and Roundup Ready canola varieties are again averaging higher yields compared to triazine tolerant and Clearfield varieties.
NVT tested varieties from each of the herbicide tolerant systems over three years from 2009 through to 2011. In 2009 and 2010, all three herbicide systems were tested within the same trials. In 2011 three separate trials (one for each system) were conducted at each location.
The following graph compares the average of the top five yielding varieties from each of the herbicide systems, at each of the NVT trial sites over the last three years.
Roundup Ready varieties out yielded triazine tolerant varieties at 51 of the 55 trial sites and by more than 10% at 34 of these sites. Roundup Ready varieties also outyield Clearfield varieties at 26 of the 38 sites tested and by more than 10% at 14 of these sites. From 55 comparisons, Roundup Ready canola varieties were 15% higher than triazine tolerant varieties (see chart below).
Roundup Ready canola also yielded well in comparison with Clearfield varieties. From 38 comparisons, Roundup Ready canola varieties were 5% higher (see chart below).

How does a grower access Roundup Ready canola?
You can access Roundup Ready canola technology through your local reseller, if they are a licensed Roundup Ready canola Technology Service Provider (TSP). View a list of all available Technology Service Providers.
Roundup Ready canola technology is purchased separately to seed and Roundup Ready herbicide, however growers should be able to purchase all three conveniently from their local reseller.
