Despite a wide range of seasonal conditions across the canola growing regions, growers achieved excellent results with Roundup Ready canola.
With the large geographic spread of the canola industry in Australia, locally demonstrating the benefits of the Roundup Ready system to growers through replicated trial work is important to show growers the benefits they will experience from the technology.
In 2009, trials on Roundup Ready canola were undertaken by a range of organisations including Monsanto. The 2009 Growing Seasons Results publication aims to highlight a few of the key findings from these studies to help you make a more informed choice about growing Roundup Ready canola.
Roundup Ready canola replicated system trials
In the three system trials Roundup Ready canola demonstrated an average yield increase of between 10% - 20% above the triazine tolerant system
In all trials Roundup Ready canola provided greater than 95% weed control
Roundup Ready canola grower experience
On average the Roundup Ready canola system yielded 15% above the triazine tolerant system
On average oil content was consistently 5% higher for Roundup Ready systems compared to the triazine tolerant system
National Variety Trial (NVT) results
The Roundup Ready system was 11% higher yielding than the triazine tolerant system
Roundup Ready system yields were comparable to that of the Clearfield system
Nufarm Roundup Ready trial results
Excellent weed control is achieved using the two spray strategy in Roundup Ready canola
When compared to the triazine tolerant system the Roundup Ready system delivered consistently higher yields
Curtin University of Technology – “Evaluation of the Environmental Impact of Roundup Ready canola in the Western Australian Crop Production System”
Roundup Ready canola has less than half the environmental impact of triazine tolerant canola
The profitability of Roundup Ready canola was equal or superior to triazine tolerant canola
