In 1996 a quiet revolution in Australian cotton production began with the introduction of insect-protected cotton – developed using biotechnology. Since the commercialisation of Bollgard II® in 2003 we have been able to offer growers a product that has dramatically reduced the number of insecticide sprays required to control Helicoverpa, the main insect pest of cotton in Australia.
This technology offers a range of substantial benefits, demonstrated by the fact that growers planted 83% of the Australian cotton crop with Bollgard II in the 2008 / 09 season.
This technology helps growers provide cost effective, high quality cotton without relying on large quantities of insecticides. We believe that Bollgard II, like the other products we are offering growers, can help make Australian agriculture more productive and more environmentally sustainable.
