Monsanto’s stewardship commitments in Australia include an exhaustive set of procedures and checks designed to
The Bollgard II Resistance Management Plan (RMP) is a vital part of the stewardship program and is about protecting the technology. It was developed by the industry research community and Monsanto and has the ability to ensure that Bollgard II is still around for the next generation of farmers to use
The RMP is based on the two basic principles:
Minimising the exposure of Helicoverpa to the Bt proteins Cry 1 Ac and Cry 2 Ab
Providing a population of susceptible individuals that can mate with any resistant individuals, hence diluting any potential resistance.
Growers of Bollgard II cotton are required to practice preventative resistance management. Compliance with the Resistance Management Plan (RMP) is required under the terms of the Bollgard II Technology User Agreement and under the conditions of registration (Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act 1994).
