Roundup Ready Flex® is the next generation of Monsanto’s weed control technology. Roundup Ready Flex® cotton contains an additional copy of the CP4-EPSPS gene in comparison to the single copy in Roundup Ready® cotton. A new and unique promoter sequence directs the two copies of the CP4 gene to express in both vegetative and reproductive parts of the plant, thereby conferring greatly enhanced crop tolerance and safety. This effectively means that Roundup Ready Flex® users can choose to apply Roundup Ready® herbicide in-crop according to the status and density of weeds, not the growth stage of the cotton crop.
Australian cotton growers are among the first in the world to have access to Roundup Ready Flex® technology, providing them with a wider, more flexible window for safely controlling weeds.
In 2008/09, 70% of the Australian cotton crop contains Roundup Ready Flex® technology in recognition of the many benefits it provides as the basis for a sustainable weed control system.
